Can a rock chip be repaired, or do I need a new windshield?
Most chips smaller than a quarter can be repaired, as long as the break is not right in the driver's line of sight or at the edge of the glass. Resin fills the break, stops it from spreading, and makes it much harder to see. Send us a photo and we will tell you which one you need.
Why chips turn into cracks in Texas
Glass parked in the San Antonio sun gets hot. Blast the A/C on it, hit a pothole, or drive into a cold front, and the stress goes straight to the weakest spot on the windshield. That is the chip. A repair this week costs far less than a new windshield next month.
What the repair looks like
We clean the break, draw the air out, and fill it with resin under pressure. A UV light cures the resin hard, and the surface is polished smooth. It is a quick job, done wherever the car is parked.
Until we get there
Put a piece of clear tape over the chip to keep dirt and water out. Go easy on the defroster and the A/C, and do not wash the car. Clean chips repair best.
